Human Genome Sequencing cost illusion

One human genome sequencing cost in 2016 is NOT $1,000.

The graph of beating Moore's law is wrong. Semiconductor integration follows Moore's law.

However, sequencing cost down has never followed it. It is far far worse than Moore's law. It is a hype.

It costs millions of dollars to produce a poor quality human genome that is close to the three billion dollar human genome (GRCh38 for example).

Here is a graph which is more likely to be close to reality.

It means that we need to produce more accurate reference quality data that has accurate indel and structural variation information.

Also, we need faster, longer range, cheaper, and much more precise sequencing technologies in the next decades. Illumina Hiseq is not cheap enough.
